Japan Travel Translator Privacy Policy

What the app processes

Japan Travel Translator is designed to process conversation and OCR content on the device. Conversation text, translation text, speech audio, partial transcripts, selected photos, and OCR text are not sent to our backend. Confirmed conversation entries may be stored on the device for up to 30 days and can be deleted from Settings. Audio, partial transcripts, OCR images, and OCR text are not saved to conversation history.

Photos selected with PhotosPicker and camera images are used only for the active OCR session. A translated image is shared only after the user taps Share. The app does not automatically save those images to Photos or to its history.

Pseudonymous installation identifier

The app creates a pseudonymous installation identifier and keeps it in the iOS Keychain. It is used for rewarded-translation status, abuse prevention, rate limiting, and server-side ad-reward verification. It is not joined with conversation, OCR, location, contacts, or other personal content.

Settings includes Delete app data. After confirmation, the app removes the current identifier and creates a new, unrelated identifier only when one is next needed. If the server cannot be reached, the old identifier is kept only in a protected Keychain retry queue until the deletion request succeeds; it is not shown in the interface or written to app logs.

Advertising and purchases

The app uses Google Mobile Ads and the User Messaging Platform for optional, non-personalized rewarded advertising. Consent is requested where required, and the app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission or use cross-app tracking. Google SDK data practices are governed by Google's current disclosures and must be reflected in the App Store Connect App Privacy answers for the submitted build.

The Remove Ads product is a non-consumable in-app purchase handled by Apple StoreKit. Japan Travel Translator does not receive or store payment-card information. Purchases can be restored in the app.

What we do not collect

The app does not collect location, contacts, the user's entire Photo Library, or conversation/OCR content for our own backend. Only an image explicitly selected by the user is processed by the OCR feature. We do not sell user data.

Retention, deletion, and support

Delete app data removes saved local conversation history, active bonus credits, cached reward status, and the current installation identifier. It does not remove an Apple-managed purchase or purchase history. Same-day usage and rewarded-ad counters may remain on the device so deletion cannot reset free or rewarded limits.

The server deletes mutable reward status, online-assist usage, and identifier-derived rate-limit state. To prevent rewarded-ad fraud and transaction replay, the minimum necessary pseudonymous transaction evidence and a one-way identifier hash may remain for no more than 90 days before automatic cleanup. These retained records do not contain conversation or translation text, OCR text or images, speech audio, location, contacts, personal information, or raw IP addresses. When the app reports that device data was deleted but server deletion will retry, the device deletion is complete and the protected retry continues automatically.
